Racism wears me out

I hate racism today.

I hate it every day but today it is really getting me down. No particular incident; maybe I have been lurking on the ThoughtLeader blog too long. Some of the stuff that gets written on there as comments is ugly.

I feel worn out by South African racism. Sometimes I feel our society is too extreme to ever come right. I really believe that multiculturalism is possible, but in an environment not as ravaged as ours. So many people don't even want to try.

Although, I never noticed much racism while I was living there. People generally seemed to get on with their lives. It is only since I have come overseas and started to read the news and opinion pieces that I have noticed the extent of bad feeling in the country. So maybe, hopefully, it is a one-sided portrayal.

Meh.

Yeah i am tiered about reading negative stuff, but I also feel it is important to be well informed about what is going on. But the news always gives only bad stories.

did you ever get the feeling that the media are the ones who fuel it all? The fear, the hate, the racism?
I studied journalism.. that's my theory!

That's an interesting theory Caz

I have no experience with journalism but I see how that would be possible. They do choose to focus on racial stories, and any time race is mentioned in a public forum, racists come out of the woodwork and have fun slating eachother.
