I need the help of an English person or an intelligent person (I am not implying that the two are necessarily mutually exclusive). Whenever I go to London to write an exam I see a poster all over the tube stations that makes no sense to me. It is a plain white poster with the following writing:
And in tiny writing at the bottom of the poster: art on the underground.
What the crap does that mean? And why is it art? Can anyone explain it to me? I put my bewilderment down to my complete lack of culture or lack of Englishness. One of the two.
Off to work
8:15am
(nylon uniform).

odd...very odd....
take a photo of it.
Are there anymore around?? Is it like a series of pictures or just one picture hanging out on its own?
Who can really judge art - after all - its "art"
heehee
I don't get it either. Although now I'm curious as to what it means. Mmmm....
I'm British and intelligent - and really modest too! I love all things eccentric ... but even in my book this is kind of weird...
My interpretation of this is as follows - choose the option you like best:
1. You use your imagination to create a picture to go along with the words, and that is why it is art - and highly personalized.
2. It is the first part in a cliffhanger and next week, the second part will appear thus explaining the mysterious white poster...
3. It is a load of bollocks and just goes to prove how silly London Transport is to pay thousands and thousands of pounds for such a load of bull.
I'm an artist and that makes no sense to me. I get some "modern" art - it's about making a statement, and making people think and see things in a new way, but THAT makes no sense at all. Take a pic, like Brazen says, and let us have a look.
I wonder the very same thing when i see that poster! and then why do they have like 10 in a row ?!?!
It is only text and those posters have been around for like 6 months! it annoys me everytime i see them.
its very clever, because it has you talking about it. however, its not so clever as to explain what it is its encouraging you to talk about.
kind of like the geniuses responsible for the titanic. cool idea, but momumentally flawed.
Very off topic: but have you seen that Miriam Makeba died last night? Very sad.

Maybe it's just there to piss you off?
Ignore it, I bet it's just out to mess with your head.
Being brazen: good idea, I have another exam this week I will try take a photo
sleepyjane: It is so cryptic. What is a nylon uniform?
ladyfi: I thought you could crack it! Um, I try to make a picture with my eyes but it doesn't work.
kitty cat: I keep feeling that it is a reference to some aspect of English culture I know nothing about.
midnite gem: so it is not just me! Well there clearly does not seem to be a sequence going on.
dash: Maybe there is something monumental we are missing here. Or maybe the point is exactly this: to trick us into thinking it means something.
ladyfi: no I didn't know. Really? Very sad, I loooved the click song.
Tamara: I am starting to suspect that!
rox: it is so hard to ignore because it is everywhere!
I dunno,, just dunno...
sunrise: Do you wear a nylon uniform to work?
That's gonna cause static issues, surely?
6000: I was relying on you to crack this mystery.
Static, yes. Um. Still not getting the stupid poster.
