Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives...

When I delved back into my posts from this time last year, I found that I was writing about Biology being a bitch, and me being a sad Po, because my experiments weren't working.

Hello, am I on some kind of time loop here? Is February the month of doom? Will my life play out like this again and again like the science fiction boomerang of bad luck?

Well I am happy to say that some time last week (much the same time as last year) my little white strips started putting in an appearance or two again. Finally. For no particular rhyme or reason that I can make out.

I love me some little white strips.

I have a feeling only a certain set are working and the others are still fucked, but we can live in hope. Baby steps.

Just in case you didn't read it last year: Biology is a bitch, and don't you forget it.

Just a side note: to whoever it was who wrote the code for our PCR machine (the machine that runs my little DNA factories):

Was it really necessary, when warning me that I had forgotten to set a minimum temperature, to write a pop up that went something along the lines of

you have forgotten to set a minimum temperature!!!!!

That level of punctuation seems more in line with:

if you don't set a minimum temperature in 5 seconds this machine will explode and you all shall die!!!!!

Whereas what is called for is more along the lines of:

By the way, you have forgotten to set a minimum temperature, which could inconvenience your experiment. Which will be a bit of a bugger.

Save the multiple exclamation marks for personal use, if you don't mind, don't foist them on unsuspecting lab rats, they give me bad karma. No wonder my experiments haven't been working.

So it won't explode then? :/

The popups are a lie :( Can't depend on anything anymore!

The PCR machine gives you bad juju!!!!!!!!! explains a lot...

But Po it's the minimum temperature we're talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tara: hopefully not. I have not set fire to anything in this lab yet, and I would love to keep it that way.

Helen: I know!!!!! What the hell???? What happens if you use multiple commas,,,,?

Anon: You have a point there. It is the minimum temperature after all!!!!!

First thing that came to mind when I saw your headline was the popular soapie Days Of Our Lives.

Have you been setting any temperatures? Because if not, that would explain a lot of stuff.

February IS the month of doom!!!!!

Damaria: that is the inspiration indeed, cos the plots of those things go round and round...

6000: dude. Of course. My programs are saved on the machine. And they worked before. However yesterday when I was setting up a gradient, I forgot to fill in the minimum temperature!!!!! and don't worry, the machine sure as hell wouldn't proceed unitl I filled in the minimum temperature!!!! so it was all safe and worked beeeutifully. Despite the overenthusiastic punctuation.

Ladyfi: is that a statistic? :)

My antivirus is like that.

whenever it detects anything it set of an audio alarm and a massive radiation sign flashes on the screen.

Oh my GAS! my PC has just become radioactive!!! oh wait... it's just a stupid trojan on my flashdisk (DELETE).

That kind of stuff can seriously stress out a technophobe (or ballie)

Kirsty said...

Sigh. I can't imagine doing PCR all day. Respect!

po said...

EEbEE: I know that stuff stresses me up too! One exclamation is more than enough, joh.

Kirsty: I don't do PCR all day, but actually I love PCR (when it is working) so I think my dream job would be to do it all day. Until it stops working. Then the PCR genie can die!!!!!

"It's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the ri-i-i-i-ight... Put your hands on your hips, and pull your knees in ti-i-i-i-ight..."

Helpful, hey? Now you're in a time warp and you have a really annoying (but yet still somehow awesome) song stuck in your head.

I'm mean.

Sorry, Po.

po said...

Tamara: have mental image of you doing that dance now... wahaha. That's ok, I have so many annoying songs in my head right now, a new one is refreshing.

i hate it when it feels like you are stuck on repeat.

I'm sure it'll only be for a little while though
