Ugh. I quit coffee just as I got pregnant, and it was surprisingly easy. I had tried to quit before and had terrible withdrawal that included depression, headaches and just general misery. This time I did not have any of that, which surprises me, because while I was working on my Masters in Joburg I was living off coffee and very little else.
Recently I have been suffering mild headaches, and I am blaming pregnancy. They are not very bad, and I should not really complain, but it does get a bit draining when they occur every day. I read that caffeine seems to help. So today I made myself some Nescafe, the caffeinated kind. It is ok to have a bit of coffee in pregnancy.
Now I am feeling not so good! All shaky and weak and anxiety has sprung from nowhere. I am not usually an anxious person. Blegh. My mild headache is gone though. Can't win in this game - headaches or anxiety? Maybe I will alternate.

My doc said up to 2 cups a day was okay...in between I had tons of rooibos. So much rooibos that it took me two years to look at rooibos again without gagging. The head aches are pretty normal. If memory serves panado in moderation is okay (but it's been a while so I could be wrong).
Ugh the headaches suck! I am a big baby though, cos mine are very mild. I know so many women puke day and night and get migraines. I decided to quit coffee because I had serious addiction issues and worried that if I did not quit I would not be able to restrict myself to 2 a day. It seemed to work because now even one cup is too hectic for me. It worked as a headache cure though!
Is panado paracetemol? I think that is ok still. Thanks Louisa!
OH WOW YOU ARE BACK AND I HAD NO IDEA AND YOU WERE IN JOBURG AND SO WAS I AND I DIDN'T KNOW AND NOW YOU ARE ALL GROWN UP AND PREGNANT AND STUFF OH WOW H WOW OH WOW!
sorry, that was quite exciting! Glad you're back, I will be keeping an eye on your blog!
Hope you are feeling better about things in general, let me know if you need to have a rant about masters, been there, still shudder to think of it sometimes (which is why I'm doing one now? again? really?).
Look after yourself - and the lemon!
As for baby advice, since I don't have one but have helped raising monkeys - when they get old enough to take nappies off and smear poo everywhere put the nappy on backwards, still catches everything and they can't get to the tabs. Once that fails duct-tape around the waist works too. Apparently ginger tea helps with nausea and headaches. that's all I can say, my primary modus operandi is to give it back to the parents when it starts crying but I guess that's out of the question for you...
LOL hey Helen, howzit!!
The masters is a nightmare. They advertised for someone in Cape Town and someone in Joburg, but they really should have just advertised for two people living in Joburg. There is no one here who can help me with what I need to do, and I don't live in Joburg... I am on the verge of quitting every day, I hate it soooo much.
I could rant for hours about the supervision on this MSc,maybe I should start practicing looking after monkeys to get some real life practical and useful experience as to what lies ahead :)
well if you need somewhere to stay in Joburg you are always welcome, I have a guest room... kind of...
let me know if you need help, I know nothing about your field but I do know some tricks around the thesis that could save you some time and get you out of there sooner.
Thanks Helen, tricks?? Tricks are good, what tricks do you know?
Also if you happen to know how to use R... no one round here does, at least not what I am doing. Luckily for me G is a programmer and while he knows nothing about R or Biology he knows a lot about programming and just looks up the equivalent of what he knows in R. But still, some supervision would have been nice.
